Traxxas Slash 4X4 VXL: What to Check Before Buying Bearings

Choosing bearings for a Traxxas Slash 4X4 VXL? First check that your model number is 68386-4. Then compare the bearings you need with the individual kit listing. The Slash name alone is not enough to choose parts.

Rubber-covered bearings are often considered for driving where dirt protection matters. Their cover design and care instructions still need checking. This guide does not confirm that a particular kit contains every bearing your truck needs.

1. Match the model and the parts on your truck

Use the model number on your manual or box label. Make sure the manual and parts drawings cover your version of the Slash. If you need help finding them, start with our manual-finding guide.

Check any changed hubs, steering parts or other assemblies separately. Parts fitted after you bought the truck may need different bearings from the original parts. Follow the instructions for those parts rather than assuming a standard kit covers the changes.

2. Understand what rubber covers can do

Rubber covers can help protect a bearing from dirt, but the amount of protection depends on the design. The word “rubber” does not tell you that a bearing is waterproof or needs no care.

Check the actual bearing maker’s instructions. Do not assume every rubber cover can be removed, that all bearings use the same oil or grease, or that a new kit will make the truck faster.

For a simple comparison with metal covers, see our bearing-cover guide and video.

3. Read the kit contents before ordering

Use the manual and parts drawings to list the bearing locations you need to repair. Then check the listing for:

  • Your exact model and version: compare the full model name and number.
  • Included sizes and quantities: check each needed bearing rather than assuming the kit covers the whole truck.
  • Cover type and care notes: read the instructions for the bearings being sold.
  • Parts that are not included: check the notes before placing an order.

If measurements disagree between sections of a listing or with your manual, ask us to confirm them. Do not round a size or choose the closest number. A kit photo, storage box or spare-bearing claim does not prove what is included.

Our bearing-kit listing guide explains how to review these details.

4. Plan for care after wet or muddy driving

The Slash manual explains that wet driving requires extra care. Water-resistant electronics do not make the whole truck waterproof. Read your model’s wet-running and maintenance instructions before driving in those conditions.

Follow the vehicle and bearing instructions when inspecting, cleaning or replacing bearings. Do not force a bearing into place or pry off a cover unless its maker says it can be removed.
